Design Memory Craft Christmas Tree

Hello blogger friends,

It's November and usually I'm all about Thanksgiving during the fall season but I've decided to make an exception for today. I've been getting a head start on Christmas! This project is super quick to make, other then a little drying time. No special talent required!

To make your own Christmas tree you will need:

-Styrofoam cone (mine is 5  inches high)
-A white piece of fabric cut into approximately 50 strips 4" by 1/2"
-50 light coloured pins
-Music sheet
-3D Liquid Lacquer
-Helmar 450 glue
-6" piece of thin wire
-Green Perfect Pearls Spray

Faber Castell Design Memory Craft
-2 green Gelatos of your choice plus one gold one
-Scarlet Red Big Brush Pen
-Gold Metallic Pitt Artist Pen
-Sritzer filled with water

Start by using your red Big Brush Pen to colour your pins. If you're wondering why I didn't just buy red pins well...I couldn't find any packs that were just red! Not all pins take the markers the same, the plastic ones don't keep the colour very well. The ones that worked well had a little metal in them. Please note that they may take a few hours to dry.

Using two green Gelatos of your choice, colour all your strips of fabric adding some gold as desired.

Using your Spritzer, spray your coloured strips.
Use you fingers to rub the colour into your fabric.

Folding your strips in half, begin to pin them at the bottom of the cone.
Once done the bottom row you can start a second row over lapping them slightly.
Repeat this process until you get to the top.

To cover the top used a bunched up strip and glue it down with Helmar 450

On your music sheet, draw a star with your Gold Artist Pitt Pen. You can do this free hand just like when you were a kid. Make sure to fill it in if you use this very special technique!

Fold your paper under before cutting so that you will cut two stars.
Colour your second star gold and glue both stars  together. (just to make a sturdier star)

Cover your star with 3D Liquid Lacquer and allow to dry completely before doing the other side.

Once everything is dry, wrap your piece of wire around your star leaving a tail at the end that you will insert into the top of the tree.

The last step is to spray the whole tree with green Perfect Pearl spray, just to give it a bit of a shine!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, see you next time!

  1. I love this project and I am thinking of trying it myself. One question for you. I think the pieces are 4 inches by at least 1/2 inch. Finished project is really great.

    1. yes 4" by 1/2"! Although you can choose whatever size you want. I plan on making some different size trees and I might adjust the strips of fabric accordingly!

  2. What a great idea! Now I know what I can try with the gelatos I got awhile back.
