In this tutorial I'll show you how to create a simple canvas background to add embellishments to. While adding a few layers of paper you'll create awesome texture and with a few well place embellishments you'll have a stunning piece of art in no time at all.
Step One: Adhere a sheet of sewing pattern to your canvas with gel medium, applying it under and over the pattern.
Step Two: Adhere some pieces of book text and wrapping paper to your canvas with gel medium. Spread a layer of gel medium to the surface of the papers as well. Dry your canvas with a heat tool.
Step Three: Cover your canvas with a thin layer of gesso. Dry your canvas completely.
Step Four: Add some color to your canvas with paint dabbers.
Step Five: Cut a heart from the metal sheet with tin snips.
Step Six: Cover the edges of your heart with decorative tape. Be careful, the edges are sharp.
Step Seven: Paint a chipboard piece with a paint dabber.
Step Eight: Ink up a background stamp with Archival ink and stamp your chipboard piece.
Step Nine: Add a layer of clear crackle paint to your chipboard piece and allow it to dry completely.
Step Ten: Adhere your heart to the canvas and your chipboard piece to the heart. Adhere the letters L-O-V-E to your canvas.
Step Eleven: Outline the heart and letters with a charcoal pencil and smudge it with your finger.
Step Twelve: Write on your canvas with a charcoal pencil and smudge it with your finger.
With a simple background and a few embellishments you can create many unique canvases to decorate with or give away as gifts. Doing multiple canvases at once also increases your productivity and enables you to get many done at once.
These turned out amazing!
