Hello blogger friends, I have a tutorial for you today, it was published in SNR magazine last year and I never got around to posting it on my blog. It's a little unusual but so much fun!
The buzz
word in mixed media these days seems to be texture. As artists we all
want it, the more depth and interest the better. I'm always trying
new ways to add texture to my canvas. Toilet paper is an inexpensive
alternative to modeling paste and can be used to make outstanding
embellishments too!

In this tutorial I'll show you how to cast a mold with a stamp and toilet paper. I'll also show you how to add incredible texture to your canvas by using this readily available supply.
In this tutorial I'll show you how to cast a mold with a stamp and toilet paper. I'll also show you how to add incredible texture to your canvas by using this readily available supply.
Step
One: Gather your paint brush, water, stamp and 8 layers of toilet
paper. If your toilet paper has more than one ply you will need to
separate it into single layers. How many squares you use per layer
will depend on the size of your stamp.
Step
Two: Cover your stamp, image side up with one sheet of toilet paper.
Apply small amounts of water to the toilet paper with your paint
brush making sure to press down into all the grooves.
Step
Three: Repeat step two with the other seven sheets of toilet paper.
Step
Four: Allow the toilet paper image to dry completely and peal it off
the stamp.
Step
Five: Spray your stamped image with ink in various colors. Set it a
side to dry.
Step
Six: Adhere layers of toilet paper to your canvas with a paint brush
and a mixture of 1/4 decoupage medium and 3/4 water.
Step
Seven: Continue to adhere more layers of toilet paper, bunching it up
to add more texture. Repeat this step until you have achieved the
depth you want.
Step
Eight: Press a background stamp into the wet toilet paper, covering
the whole canvas. Set a the canvas a side to dry completely.
Step
Nine: Cut your stamped image out with scissors.
Step
Ten: Spray your canvas with a few different colors of ink. Allow it
to dry completely.
Step
Eleven: Lightly rub an ink pad across the canvas. A contrasting color
works best.
Step
Twelve: Lightly rub the same ink pad over your toilet paper stamped
image.
Step
Thirteen: Apply liquid adhesive to the raised areas of your stamped
image, adhere the piece to your canvas.
This art
form is very simple and quick to make. The only time you might
require patience is waiting for it to dry as a heat tool doesn't seem
to speed things up. It's best to let it dry over night.
This fun
technique can be used in other ways as well. Why not alter a vase by
covering it with toilet paper like it was plaster or use a texture
plate to create a funky unique ornament?
