Rocket Ship Space Party

My only son turned 5 last week-end and I was excited to be able to plan a boy party! Since our other three kids are all girls I've only done girly parties before. This was so much fun, I enjoyed the preparations as much as the party. Of course it helped that my big girls did so much of the work! Since I used lots of scrapbooking paper and supplies for this party I decided it belonged on this blog!
Jacob painted some foam balls to look like planets (almost all of them ended up being "earths"!) He then covered them with glow-in-the-dark mod podge. (after 5 coats they still did not glow so we gave up!)

Jacob helped cut out the star cookies.  The cookies were made and decorated by my 12 year old daughter and her friend. She also
baked the cake.  I cut it up to make the shape and decorated it with chocolate stars and letters. It was a spice cake and the icing was a box of cream cheese and a jar of marshmallow fluff mixed together. Very yummy! I got the cone idea from here

Rocket ship flashlights
I made rocket ship flashlight to use on the "moon rock hunt" We made our basement somewhat dark so the kids could use their flashlights on the hunt.
The moon rocks were Easter eggs covered in foil. Got that cool idea and many more from the homemade parade

S'mores rocket ships
The s'mores rockets were made with chocolate chips, mini marshmallows and teddy grahams. I could not find cone-shaped bags so I used pretzel bags and taped the top in a pointy shape.

These were dollar store banks that I covered with beautiful rocket ship/robot glittery paper from Multi-craft.

I covered the flashlights with the same cool paper. For the tops I used red cellophane.

Found these amazing chocolates at bulk barn! The kids were afraid of trying them!

Pop Rock Chocolate Bark
This Pop Rock chocolate bark just looked moon-ish to me so I had to give it a try. It was a huge hit. You can find the recipe at we love crafty tracey

My 10 year old decorated the basement, she did a great job but since I take terrible photos it's hard to see here!

These were suppose to be cheesy balls but I don't think they sell them in Canada. The kids didn't know the difference anyways!

Moon Juice
Moon Juice, made from orange sherbet and 7-up, yummy!

The serving tray idea came from catch my party I didn't really follow the directions because I couldn't find the right size chip can! Basically I covered two full size chip cans with duct tape and glued them to pizza trays. The top is a cone-shaped foam piece that I painted silver. We served star-shaped sandwiches, flying saucer pizza and little dippers (chicken nuggets)

All the kids chose one of the costumes to get their picture taken. Almost all of them picked the homemade rocket ship over the store bought astronaut.

Jacob in the rocket costume that he made (with help) Unfortunately, by the time he put it on it had lost it's flames at the bottom!
